2019 TECHNOLOGY

METUA WOOD TECHNOLOGY

The technology of our 2019 boards was improved to provide the best performance and more durability. Our boards are designed and shaped with a high-end technology with perfectly balanced weight, strength and impact resistant characteristics. Our latest METUA Carbon wood technology combines pre-coated EPS foam, a fiberglass layer and PMI foam as a deck reinforcement, a first full wrap 6OZ carbon layer, followed by a full wrap paulownia wood layer, and a last full wrap 4OZ fiberglass layer, as well as a high performance gloss finish paint. 

PRE COATED EPS FOAM

Our boards are shaped out of high density EPS foam and built from custom designed materials. The technology delivers a high energy resulting in ultimate speed and drive. The pre coated EPS Foam is high density EPS - expanded polystyrene foam – and has a high strength to weight ratio and good compression stability.

We then add a 4 oz fibreglass layer on the deck, as well as a layer of PMI Foam as a deck reinforcement.

FIBERGLASS LAYERS 

We use 4OZ fiberglass under the PMI foam to give more strength on the boards standing area, so the rider can use all this surface during the paddling without damaging the board on the long term. Then, we add a full wrap 4OZ fiberglass layer on the whole board (after paulownia wood layer) to maximise strength of our ALL ROUND METUA Carbon wood boards. 

PMI FOAM (DECK & PLUGS REINFORCEMENT) 

We use PMI foam material in our technology and construction to reinforce specific part of our hard boards. Added to the fiberglass layer, we use the PMI foam on the rider standing area as a deck reinforcement, and we also use it to reinforce the fin box and alls plugs (Go Pro plug, GPS Plug, leash plug, etc.) . Thanks to its fined cell size, the PMI foam ensures the minimum possible uptake resin, it provides as well an outstanding mechanical strength.

6 OZ CARBON LAYER

We use a full wrap 6 OZ carbon layer within the laminate in our ALL ROUND METUA Carbon wood boards construction. The carbon layer acts as a skeleton and is used to reinforce and to add more strength the whole ALL ROUND board while keeping its weight as low as possible.

PAULOWNIA WOOD LAYER

On top of the carbon layer, we decided to use a full wrap of Paulownia wood layer on the entire board. We choose to use Paulownia wood essentially for its colour (silky light golden – blonde colored wood) and general aesthetic quality to create a vintage look for our ALL ROUND METUA Carbon wood board. The paulownia wood is also a very light but strong wood,  known as the “Aluminium” of the timbers. 

LOGOS & HIGH PERFORMANCE GLOSS FINISH PAINT

We then add our In Lams water transfert logo onto our boards, and we cover the entire board with a high performance gloss finish paint, which result into a higher speed and better penetration and glide in the water.
